Summer of Opportunity

Summer Of Opportunity

The Summer of Opportunity:  Started in 1994, this is a  unique partnership between the ManuLife Insurance company (formerly John Hancock) and the Boston Police Department.   This program offers Boston’s youth the opportunity to participate in a six-week paid summer internship and training program, followed by a school year internship program. Summer of Opportunity participants spend the summer in a structured training environment, learning valuable job, leadership, and life skills. Participants must commit to attend the entire summer and the Phase II portion, which consists of weekly meetings and internships during the school year. Participants are paid a weekly stipend for 30 hours of work during the summer and for up to 10 hours per week during their internship, if applicable, during the school year.    This program is funded by the ManuLife Insurance company and is run in concert with the Boston Police Department and the Boston Police Foundation through its  subsidiary,  Summer of Opportunity, LLC.
