The brave Men and Women who dawn the Boston Police uniform are Mothers, Fathers, Daughters, Sons, Family, Friends, Neighbors and Protectors. They have taken an oath to protect and serve the City of Boston, its residents and its visitors. When facing tremendous pressure, risks of violence and even assault, they have shown the world their incredible patience and understanding. They stood with the thousands of peaceful protesters throughout Boston and the millions of peaceful protesters around the world to denounce racism, honor George Floyd, show their support for the Floyd Family, and support our communities of color. They allowed, encouraged and participated in the protests to ensure everyone’s voice could be heard, including their own, and provided their grieving community the outlet to speak out about the injustices here and across the Country.
It was inspirational to see the thousands gather peacefully voicing opinions, displaying their pain and supporting one another. Being heard is the first step towards understanding and change and that certainly was accomplished.
As seen across the country however, the peaceful protests turned into dangerous riots. The violence and destruction undermined the extremely powerful peaceful protests. Even in the face of danger, officers continued to protect the crowds, protect the city and protect themselves, as they do tirelessly each and every day without hesitation. Through these trying times, the tremendous training, coordination and mental strength of our Officers was exemplary. Together, they worked to minimize the destruction and the violence while identifying those who were causing harm. They tactfully did this and we commend them for their efforts.
We know there is anger, we know there is sadness, we know there is frustration that has been built over 100’s of years. There is no easy solution and no easy answers, but change can and will happen if there is understanding. We need to come together as a community to implement change, but tearing down our communities and hurting those who sacrifice their lives to protect us is not the answer. The officers who live and work by their Hippocratic Oath are standing by their community today. Our Officers are here to understand our cause and stand with you to stop injustice behavior in policing.
Boston Police Officers are Mothers, Fathers, Daughters, Sons, Family, Friends, Neighbors and Protectors. They are an integral part of every community throughout Boston. Their uniform does not define their being. Please continue to stand for your beliefs, but let us do so without causing harm to others. Let us work together as a united community to combat the true enemy; the intangible mindset that can only be defeated by intellectual persuasion and leading by example. Together, we can build a community that proves the anger, sadness and frustration that has been cultivated over the years is an unnecessary burden that can be lifted from not only our black community, but all those who experience these emotions due to the effects of inequality. Let us work together to raise our voice and end injustice for all.
