Summer is typically a time for change in the day-to-day routine of organizations. Things tend to go at a bit slower pace; vacation time takes the place of meeting time; projects wrap up or go on hiatus. However, the Boston Police Foundation has been remained busy this summer! In my last post, I told you about two disbursements of your generous donations that were made in June and July. These disbursements benefited the Boston Police Relief Association and supported a technology initiative for the Boston Police Department.
In August, we have been busy on both the operations of the Foundation and the execution of the mission of the Foundation.
-Working with a legal consulting team from Proskauer Rose, LLP, we have been developing new operating guidelines to ensure that as a Foundation we remain consistent, transparent and fully compliant with the many requirements incumbent upon a charitable organization like ours. The Boston Police Foundation takes its mission seriously and performing this kind of work is a best practice for philanthropic groups.
-Additionally, we are making plans for two spectacular Fall fund raising events. These promise to be evenings of fun, laughter, camaraderie all in the name of a good and worthy cause!
-Finally, we have received a request for an additional disbursement of funds for a project that will touch each member of the Boston Police Department. Our Board will vote on this request at our next meeting and I will report back to you in my September post on the details.
It is a privilege to support the men and women of the Boston Police Department who every day put their lives on the line for us!
With gratitude to our donors and to the men and women in blue,
Dick Parry
President, Boston Police Foundation
